How to get to Crete
Crete is the largest Greek island as well as the fifth largest one in the Mediterranean. It constitutes the natural border of the Aegean Sea to the south as well as to the Libyan Sea to the north. Its distance from mainland Greece is roughly 160 kilometers.
During the period of the Conference, the “Nikos Kazantzakis” Airport of Heraklion (Distance 20 Km from the Conference venue) is linked with more than 50 European airports with direct regular and charter flights.
“Kazantzakis” Heraklion Airport is linked directly with “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport of Athens, the “Makedonia” airport of Thessaloniki, the “Diagoras” airport of Rhodes and with the airports of many Greek islands. The flight from Athens to Heraklion takes approximately 45 minutes.
The port of Piraeus (Athens) is linked daily to Heraklion and sailings take about 8 hours on standard ferries. These overnight ferries arrive at their destination between 5.30 and 6.30 in the morning.
